Ansei Tōashi nicknamed the "Samurai Marathon. was a footrace open to the samurai of the Annaka Domain. It was approximately 30 kilometers which is about 18.641 miles. It took place in (1854–1860) of Japan. Though forgotten for a long time, this event was eventually re-instituted in 1955, and has been viewed as a cultural resource since then. to this day, crowds of people dress up in samurai clothes and run the marathon annually in commemoration of this event. Samurai Marathon is a 2019 movie covering the origins of this historical race.

In 1855, a daimyo sends his men on a grueling marathon to discover if they're tough enough to face the newly arrived Americans. Misunderstanding his intent, the Shogun dispatches assassins.
