That age-old question: What Camera should I get or What Camera should I Start with, or What Brand is the best, etc. etc. This question has been asked more times than I could count. The thing is, it’s not as easy as: Use Camera A. There’s more to it.
The usual answer and extremely applicable is: Do not worry about the gear, if you have something that works to take photos then use that. The reason for this is in the beginning you want to work on composition, technique, lighting, settings, etc. Photographs are created by you not the “gear”. Better gear does affect the quality of the finished image, but a badly composed photo on a lower quality camera is still a badly composed photo on a super expensive camera.
First: What is your purpose for wanting to get a camera? There is no wrong answer to this, it is simply the drive that will keep you going to learn. And having this purpose will help you decide what type of camera to get.
Second: What is your budget. Having an idea of how much money you want to spend will also help you get started. Cameras and equipment can be pricey. You can always upgrade later, but to start, you can get something smaller to see if you like it!

You’re right, that is a lot of options, and there are more than that too! There are several cameras to choose from. I picked ones that I have either used myself, or that I know someone who has used it (not including all the compacts and bridge cameras those are just the “top rated”). I personally have not used all these cameras and I'm not necessarily familiar with them all. If you know which one you like, use the link above to get one from Amazon. I would recommend going to a store and touching them, feeling them, testing them out, seeing how the controls work, really getting your hands dirty so you know what you’re getting – you can always come back and use the link to buy one then or just get it at the store lol.
Remember you can buy the most expensive camera out there but without knowing how to use it, your pictures will get no better. Rather than spending your money, spend your time practicing and MASTERING THE PHOTO!
