Indian Scammers Posed as Microsoft Support, SCAMMED Elderly Man. BODYCAM
If you have ever gotten an email or text message from Microsoft Support, its a scam! an 88 year old man became the victim of a large scam after thinking he was talking to Microsoft Support. They stole over $100k from this man and when they tried to go pickup money for the 3rd time the police were waiting. In one instance they had this 88 year old man withdraw $60k from his bank account and send it to them via a Bitcoin ATM machine.
It's believed they were in the US on some sort of student visas. One of the men tried to claim that he drove his friend from California to Arizona for $200 and did not know anything about why they were going there.
The reason they didn't just immediately arrest these guys when they arrived to the victims home was because they wanted to see if they were making other stops to pickup money that had not yet been reported to the Police. They did get a search warrant for a hotel room and searched that to make sure they didn't have cash or gold they got from someone else. (it's the hotel in the drone footage)
I've tried to find an outcome for these cases and have not been able to find out what happened. There does not appear to be any resolution, the last court date was about 10 months ago. From what I can tell it looks like the state of California was trying to have them extradited for something similar in their state. The video is from Arizona. There is some language about being a fugitive of justice in some of the court docs, I believe they were likely released shortly after these arrests with a promise to appear...my guess is they did not appear for a future court date. (could be completely wrong on this as there are not a lot of documents) Did they get released and then went back to India? Would they have been allowed to leave the country with a pending criminal case like this? I really don't have the answers.
Note on the video: I'm fully aware that there are people back in India pulling the strings on these types of scams. I've yet to see any of these cases where the 'couriers' did not know they were involved in something illegal. You don't drive hundreds of miles away or take a flight to pickup gold or cash in person by giving someone a password at their own home. They can act like they had no idea they were involved in a scam, I don't buy that at all. They might not be the masterminds but they are certainly playing a key role and an active participant and should be punished as such.
*all suspects in these videos should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
