Natural molecule role in osteoarthritis treatment?

Are you aware... Scientists have identified a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and appears to protect cells in the joints from being destroyed.
Natural molecule role in osteoarthritis treatment?
An article published in Arthritis Research UK, described urocortin, a corticotropin releasing factor (CRF) family peptide that is made inside the body and appears to protect cells against nitric oxide-induced death.
The latest research suggests it is "essential" to the survival of chondrocyte cells, which are responsible for producing and maintaining healthy cartilage but are depleted in people with osteoarthritis.
Researchers at the Universities of Manchester and Westminster found that when they removed urocortin from cell samples grown in the lab, large numbers of chondrocytes died.
However, when urocortin was added, it protected the cells from dying, even in the presence of chemicals that normally promote cell death in osteoarthritic cartilage.
The findings were published in the journal Cell Death and Disease.
Comment: If this turns out to be valid, it could lead to better treatments.
