Chichibu: Fammima & Nosaka-ji

I woke up early in Chichibu and decided to walk to a nearby temple. It was so beautiful. This was one of the temples I visited on the 34 Kannon Pilgrimage, but I felt so rushed by my driver, I didn’t really feel like I could experience it. What a magical experience to walk around this silent temple early in the morning with the mist hanging over the mountains and no sound but an occasional bird. On the way back to my hotel, I picked up a chicken teriyaki and egg sandwich and latte from Family Mart. It was better than the hotel breakfast.

Not in this video - I went to Matsuri no Yu at 10 when they opened (they actually didn’t have morning hours, I misunderstood) and I had the whole place almost all to myself. In the outdoor baths, there is a large cherry tree filled with blossoms. We’ve now entered cherry blossom falling season, and it was so beautiful sitting in the bath with a blizzard of petals falling all around me. If you are able to go at 10 when they open, definitely do it. It’s amazing when it’s quiet.

My trip is almost over. I was sad to leave Chichibu. I honestly don’t know if I will come back to Japan or not, but if I do, I definitely will be returning to Chichibu. I might try to find a hotel with a more comfortable bed though.
