VR6 24V Cam Timing EXPLAINED!! + HeadSpacer INFO🔥
The VR6 24V cam timing is kind of confusing. Ive set the timing wrong, and wrong again. I FINALLY got it, so figured id make a video about it so others could get their car running.
First you get the crank lined up with the notch on the crank pulley and notch on the block. You need to make sure cylinder 1 is on the compression stroke and NOT VALVE OVERLAP, Cam plate is in, see if your intermediate shaft is on top or bottom (lined up) and you should be good to go!!
Theres also 16 chain ''pins'' between the cam sprocket arrows when lined up correctly.
With the HeadSpacer on the 24V's we needed to grind the aluminum housing where the Can Chain Tensioner threads were, also there's some ports above the tensioner that I ground down. I don't know 100% if that was needed but did anyway. I KNOW you need to grind the aluminum threads down.
We DIDNT grind any off the black chain guide. We tried 3 times to try and grind that down with different amounts but it didn't run right any of the times. That guide stays factory!!
On the Vag-Com you can measure the cam angle on measuring blocks 208-209 and you should get an angle reading. If you don't get it, your timing IS NOT RIGHT. We went through this and tried everything but ended up finding out the timing was wrong. As SOON as the timing was right we got the reading on 208-209 and it ran GREAT after that. If your timing is off it will run and run good, but it will have a slight miss. The MAXX the measuring block that the Vag-Com will read is 10 degrees. So if you don't get that..your off!!
