This Investment Will TRIPLE the Market Or Lose by Triple (TQQQ)

TQQQ is a leveraged ETF that will either triple the NASDAQ 100 in gains or losses in a daily basis. In this video, I review that ETF to explain how it works and when it might and might not be useful in a normal person's portfolio.

TQQQ is an interesting investment, because my first impression of how it works differed quite dramatically from how it actually works. TQQQ uses debt and leverage to payout either a 3X increase or decrease in price based on the daily moves in the NASDAQ 100 (QQQ). So if QQQ moves up 1% in a day, TQQQ will move up 3%. If QQQ drops 1%, TQQQ drops 3%.

While this is fairly simple and intuitive on a daily basis, it results in some non-obvious results when held over a long time period. For example, the NASDAQ could be up 10% over a longer time period, while TQQQ could actually be down dramatically during that same period. TQQQ also has a much higher expense ratio than many ETFs, with an expense ratio of 0.98%.
