Fact or Fiction Corn meal or Grits KILLS Ants

I have always been told or heard that if you put corn meal on a Ant mound it will kill them so i decided to find out.
I tried Corn Meal and Grits.
The Theory is they will eat it then with moisture the grits or corn mean will expand killing the Ants.
