Snow and Trains in Zurich - Forchbahn Winter - Bahnhof Stadelhofen

Due to the strongest snowfall in about 15 years, most tram and bus services were cancelled in Switzerland's largest city on 15 January 2021. Only the suburban Forchbahn light rail trains on S 18 services were able to operate for much of the day into the city center.

Already the previous night, most services had to be curtailed at around 10 pm, after trees had crashed onto the power lines of trams and trolleybuses. Although Zürich is equipped to deal with snow, the quantity of the white stuff as well as the prolongued downfall proved too much in this instance. By the afternoon of 15 January, tram lines 3 and 14 were able to resume services on parts of their routes, while some peripheral bus services also returned.

Wegen dem stärksten Schneefall seit 2006, mussten am 15. Januar 2021 fast alle Zürcher Trams im Depot bleiben. Nur gegen Abend gab es einen limitierten Einsatz der Strassenbahnen auf den VBZ Linien 3 und 14 auf gewissen Teilstecken. Eine Aussnahme bei dieser Betriebslage war die schmalspurige Forchbahn auf der S 18 zwischen Esslingen, Rehalp und Zürich Stadelhofen. Dieser Kurzfilm zeigt den Winterbetrieb und die grösseren Schneemengen entlang der Kreuzbühlstrasse zwischen Stadelhofen und Kreuzplatz.
