How China Revived Entire Desert With Just 11 Nearly Extinct Horses Make US Scientist Must Astonished

How China Saved a Desert With an Endangered Horse Species

Once extinct in the wild, Przewalski’s horse survived only in a handful of zoos and breeding centers around the world. By the nineteen eighties, fewer than one thousand individuals remained, and the future of the last truly wild horse on Earth appeared uncertain.

China responded with an ambitious reintroduction program in the Junggar Basin of Xinjiang. After years of captive breeding and training, the horses were gradually returned to the grasslands they had disappeared from decades earlier. What followed surprised many scientists. As the horses spread across the landscape, vegetation began to recover, groundwater stabilized, and a declining ecosystem slowly came back to life.

Join Mandarin Tech as we explore how an endangered horse species helped restore thousands of hectares of grassland — and transformed the way scientists think about fighting desertification.
