Bus or boss?

Last week, I posted a video working with one of my students on these vowels, and I got a lot of questions about the difference between them!

Today, I’m going to explain a bit more about the difference between the words “bus”🚌 and “boss”💼.

BUS vowel: A neutral vowel sound, open your mouth just a little bit. Imagine that you’re directing the sound to the roof of your mouth (the upper palate). This sound is In words like luck, bus, color, love, mother, country

BOSS vowel: In this vowel, we have to open our mouths a lot! We drop our jaw, and round the lips just a bit. The sound resonates in the back of the mouth so it has a bit of a “deeper” quality to it. This sound is in words like lock, boss, hot, coffee, job.
