CATCHING MANGROVE CRABS by HAND | Traditional Crab Hunting in the Caroni Swamp | Trinidad, Caribbean

Last weekend the crew went out in search of what we call hairy mangrove crabs. This was the first time that I have actually been out in the mangroves trying to catch them. It has been a long standing tradition to go after these crabs a few days after the New Moon.

Things started off pretty slowly, as we simply were not seeing any crabs. Eventually as we moved from spot to spot, we started seeing a couple.

It was really hard work weaving through the Mangroves to catch these elusive critters, as the humidity, mud and maze of roots made it physically draining. Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun and we ended up catching about 24 crabs in 2 hours worth of work!
