Is 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Overpriced? - How It Compares To Competitors?

Today we find out if 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross is worth the asking price.

The 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross is a little SUV manufactured to meet your most fundamental needs. It's a great subcompact car that you should consider buying. This vehicle has three available grades, including the GX, GXL, and the supreme Urban model.
The starting price for the car is between $26,990 to $32,990, excluding on-road costs. Other models like the Hybrid 2WD cost $28,990 to $34,990. The Hybrid AWD is worth $31,990 to $37,990.
Undoubtedly, the Yaris Cross comes with very impressive functions, but is it overpriced for its features? Compared to main competitors like the Mazda CX-3, Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke, and the Mitsubishi ASX, is it really worth your money?
For a starting price of $26,990, the Yaris Cross comes with a comfortable rear-passenger space and standard safety features. Compared to the regular Yaris, this model does more and offers a higher value. It comes with a stylish cabin, Apple CarPlay, 7-inch touch screen, decent seats, and other noteworthy features.
Unfortunately, there are no higher-end trims for the interior of the car. The boot features beneficial functionalities like straps for holding smaller luggage items in place and a height-adjustable floor. Users can also get a powered tailgate that opens up when you aim a kick below the rear bumper.
Let's start by comparing the 2021 Mazda CX-3 to the new Yaris. The CX-3 has a starting price of $21,740. It estimates 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway for the front-wheel-drive model's EPA. On the other hand, the all-wheel-drive estimates 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
The CX-3 comes with a detailed cabin and limited rear-passenger space. So, you shouldn't buy it to drive many people. The vehicle interior is made up of soft leather, textured plastics, and bright chrome detailing. If you love simplicity, you'll find the interior fantastic.
Like the Yaris Cross, the CX-3 comes with a standard 7.0-inch touch screen infotainment system placed on its well-structured dashboard. There's a rotary-knob controller located on the center console for more comfortable use. Over the instrument panel, there's a display that provides data on speed and navigation.
Safety and driver assistance features in the Mazda are above average. The car has a fantastic crash-test rating. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the car has a five-star rating. The car's available safety features include a standard automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning.
The Hyundai Venue is another similar vehicle to compare with the Yaris Cross. It comes at an MSRP of $18,750, including the destination charge. The car comes with 15-inch wheels, Bluetooth, cruise control, cloth upholstery, and other significant power features.
The new Venue SE from Hyundai is one inch above the 7-inch touchscreen in the Yaris Cross. It comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The advanced SEL trim adds more functions like automatic climate control, 17-inch wheels, a sunroof, keyless start, and heated front seats.
The EPA rates the Venue at 30 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined. Safety doesn't appear to be a problem in the new Venue SE. The NHTSA gives the car a four-star rating. Drivers can enjoy a great outward vision and standard automatic braking.
One of the major SUVs to compare with the Yaris Cross is the Kia Seltos. It comes at a starting price of $21,990, which is $5,000 lower than the Cross. In the subcompact SUV class, the car has some of the best fuel economy values. It returns an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg highway.
The Kia Seltos has standard infotainment features, including an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It can be operated easily by either pressing the on-screen buttons or adjusting other functions through the clearly labeled physical controls on the center stack.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Kia Seltos has an overall rating of four out of five stars, which is a good grade. In all six crash test categories, the Seltos was rated "good." The downside in terms of safety is the headlight options, which were rated poor for "forward visibility."
When talking about significant competitors to the Yaris Cross, we can't leave out the Honda HR-V. It comes at a starting price of $21,020, which also falls below the price of the Yaris. The car comes with a 7-inch display audio touch screen that incorporates Apple CarPlay.
Fuel economy seems impressive as it gets an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. For a subcompact crossover SUV, those are impressive values. The car keeps its composure around sharp turns, and it has strong and precise steering.
