Three-Mile Island: When Pennsylvania Almost Became Chernobyl

Two operators at the Three Mile Island nuclear facility are patching up a blockage in a device known as a condensate polisher, an industrial water filter.

The cause of the blockage is resin buildup, which was normal. However, unlike normal, the resin wasn't budging easily.

The operators as a result blow compressed air into the water basin, which solved the problem. It being just a normal blockage, they clean up and leave the site.

Unbeknownst to the men however, they had just indirectly caused a nuclear meltdown of catastrophic proportions.
