Making carved pottery out of clay.

Pottery has been an art form practiced for thousands of years. Carving pottery can add a pleasing design on a pot or vase.

Pottery clays are all made with a water base and need to be fired in a kiln to vitrification to become permanent.

The first lines incised into the clay should be the skeleton of your design. Define the motion and flow of the pattern by laying down directional lines. Then flush out the drawing by working back from the tip of each spiral.
