Stedman Doubles and Lowering at Lillington, Dorset

From my newest piece of footage, I now turn my attention to one of my oldest, never-before-seen videos, filmed 31st October 2013 (for context, this was the same outing that took us to Breamore and Milton Abbey, which can be found elsewhere on my channel from way back when, and was organised by a young, fresh-faced Jack Pease, who you may be able to spot displaying some finesse on the tenor here).

Three of the bells (1,2,4) were cast by Taylors in 1916, joining the other two (significantly older) bells - the tenor is a medieval casting from the Salisbury foundry). They were hung in a new frame of oak and cast iron by Thomas Doble of Taunton. It's interesting to note that this work took place as the First World War raged!

The bells handle well, and sound very pretty, albeit a little quiet inside, and with a very uneven ringing room floor (note the too-small "boxes" to combat this!). And yes, that is an Aaron ringing Stedman. Strange things were happening even before Covid-19! :-)

Tenor 6-1-9 in Bflat
