How To Create Interesting Diatonic Patterns For Jazz Improv
Years ago, I had a talk with myself and knew that I didn't want to (and couldn't) sound like everybody else. This led me to looking for ways to break out of the conventions of normal improvisations. As a result, I realized that practicing well known diatonic material in a more unique way opened up endless possibilities. It also allowed me to express myself in a much more rhythmically fulfilling way.
With just a couple of practice techniques, you can easily change your entire approach to improvisation with regards to rhythm. These techniques will open up your time feel and allow you to experience a new freedom within the bar.
