Nio Firefly Deliveries Start in China

The first model, simply called Firefly, launched just 10 days ago and starts at around $16,500 in China, including the battery. Like other Nio models, it supports battery swapping, and starting August 1, buyers will be able to opt into Nio’s battery rental program to lower the upfront cost by thousands.

Originally intended for a European debut, Firefly adjusted its rollout due to rising tariffs. It’s now set to launch in Europe between June and August, with a right-hand drive version coming by October. The company says it plans to enter 16 overseas markets — including the UK and Southeast Asia — by the end of this year.

Firefly is taking aim at compact electric models like the BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz Smart, and will be priced and marketed differently depending on the region. Nio’s CEO William Li and other top execs attended the first delivery events in China, marking the brand's official start.
