Street Portrait Advice | Hamburg Interview with Jannis Dirksen
In this video I sit down with Jannis Dirksen, a street portrait photographer from Hamburg. We have a conversation about my experience photographing strangers on the streets of Hamburg during his street portrait / photography course. This interview was originally at the end of another video from my Hamburg series but I felt that there is great value from our conversation, so I have put in out as a separate video.
We talk about my fear of approaching strangers to ask to do a spontaneous portrait session and how it felt after doing 10 street portrait sessions. I did another 3 street portraits after this interview!! I often watch this interview to remind myself that asking strangers to take this photograph is not as scary as we make it to be and also how much joy can be found from sharing photography with others.
Remember, the world is not a scary as it may seen in the news. Here’s to returning to photographing strangers in the near future..
