The JB-1 Flying Bat Bomb

The V-1 flying bomb, also known as Vengeance Weapon, buzz bomb, or doodlebug, wreaked havoc in England during World War 2.

At the peak of the raids launched against London in 1940 and 1941, as many as 100 V-1 bombs fell around the city and its suburbs every day.

After the United States Air Force noticed how much damage these German V-1 bombs inflicted, they knew that developing an American Buzz Bomb needed to be a priority. Northrop Aviation built two versions, and its unique design and look earned it the nickname "The Bat."
