I embarked on the journey to turn our abandoned land into a green haven, building my own home, living off grid and becoming self-sufficient in terms of food and energy. The goal for these first years was to create a place more in balance with planet earth, to grow my own food and life a more self sufficient life 💛🌱🌸

Seed mixtures I used with all their properties below 🤍👇🏽🫶🏽
🌱 Nitrogen Fixing Seeds for Acidic soil:
- Lupinus luteus
- Common Vetch (Vicia sativa)
- Sweet blue lupin
- White lupin
- Serradela (Ornithopus sativus or common birdsfoot)
- Crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum)
Biodiverse mix of fast-growing annual legumes to increase organic matter and soil fertility; high floristic diversity; adapted to acidic soils.
🌱 Seed Mixture for Soil Structure Improvement in acidic soil:
- Lupinus luteus
- Common Vetch (Vicia sativa)
- Sweet blue lupin
- White lupin
- Crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum)
- Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum)
- White mustard
- Daikon (white radish)
- Fodder turnip or Forage turnip
- Avena strigosa (Black oat)
Biodiverse mixture intended for crop rotation where the main objective is to decompact and aerate the soil in depth. It consists of several associated species that together result in a balance and complementarity that allows not to produce too much biomass at aerial level and quickly cover the soil surface, reducing losses due to carryover. At the subsoil level, the different root systems allow the soil to be aerated both at the surface and in the deeper layers. They contribute to improving the structure, microbial activity and circulation of water and air in the soil. The species used is the white radish, which, due to its aggressive root growth, can reach 2-5 cm in diameter and up to 35 cm in length. At the end of the cycle, root decomposition leaves cavities in the soil structure that improve the entry of water and air into the deeper layers and promote microbiological activity.
🌱 Increase organic matter & biological activity in the soil:
- Lupinus luteus
- Sweet blue lupin
- White lupin
- White mustard
- Abyssinian mustard
- Daikon
- Fodder turnip or Forage turnip
- Avena strigosa (Black oat)
- Annual Ryegrass / Westerwoldicum
- Rapeseed
- Crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum)
- Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum)
Ideal biodiverse mixture to increase organic matter and biological activity in the soil. By increasing biomass production, effective weed control is possible. It improves the structure, making the soil looser and more spongy, provides nutrients, and stimulates the soil's biological activity. Mixtures made up of a great diversity of species that, with different root systems and complementary growth, allow different soil levels to be explored and also contribute to improving aeration, circulation and water retention. The presence of legumes makes it possible to obtain biomass with a low C:N ratio, which allows for a greater rate of decomposition of the material and higher levels of nitrogen.
