Unfortunately purchasing my new 2024 Armada Whitewalker 116 skis coincided with a lull in the typical winter snowfall that is expected for Hokkaido, Japan. However the below average conditions gave me a good chance to test the skis out on hardpack and variable snow, which is where I was pleasantly surprised with their performance.

Meeting up with my friend J from last season, we decided to hike up to the summit and drop into Kozan No Sawa (Annupuri Back bowl) for some steeper terrain. The whiteout conditions made this quite difficult to ski properly, but was a fun challenge considering the conditions.

Ever wondered what skiing in Japan is like over an entire winter season?

Follow my journey as an Australian moving overseas to ski in Japan at the world-famous powder snow capital, Niseko United. This ski trip would be my second full season in a row and my previous experience at this resort would lead me to finding the best and deepest powder that Niseko has to offer.

From daily antics to skiing the dry, blower powder Niseko is known for, this ski vlog series follows the entire winter of 2023-2024. I spent my time living close by to Niseko Hanazono ski resort, one of the best ski resorts in Japan. Watch my journey skiing in Niseko off piste, on groomers, in resort-accessed sidecountry and out in the backcountry of Hokkaido.

With previous Niseko, Japan ski trips and the entire winter season last year under my belt, this winter season was shaping up to be the best skiing of my entire life. Everything I had learned was going to be put to the test.
