Caro Kann Defense, Finnish variation - Standard chess #48
I played as black in this one, and opted for the Caro-Kann Defense. During the game, I recalled a move that Leela Chess Zero played as early as move 4. Only after the game did I realize that the move denotes the Finnish variation. To name a couple ideas, the Finnish variation of the Caro-Kann attempts to save a move over the mainline Caro-Kann, and negate any white lines where a knight pivots on g5. There would be no haymakers thrown in this game. Given the opening is the Caro-Kann, it shouldn't come as a great surprise when it tends towards a game of inches. Surprisingly enough however, it can be quite easy for black to misstep as early as move 7! The Rapid time control for this game is 15 minutes with a 10 second increment.
