Huge lorry queues near Dover as France closes border to UK

Lorries were unable to travel out of the UK as France closed its borders to the UK in an attempt to halt the spread of a new coronavirus strain.

The government advised travellers and hauliers to avoid Kent due to the disruption which is due to last at least 48 hours.

French officials said the pause would buy time to find a "common doctrine" on how to deal with the threat, but it threw the busy cross-channel route used by thousands of trucks a day into chaos.
