En los Juegos de la XIX Olimpiada de México 68 se utilizó el cronometraje electrónico oficialmente, se implemento el sistema de photosprint en las competencias de atletismo y los touchpads en las de natación ambos de la empresa Omega, también se conectaron la pistola de salida, los altavoces y las señales de inicio en el atletismo. Se establecieron 237 posiciones para televisión y 390 posiciones para radio, cabinas para cronistas, la transmisión a color de los juegos llegó a 600 millones de espectadores en todo el mundo.
