Royal Tradition: Princess Leonor to Preside Over National Flag Tribute | National Holiday Spain 2023

Princess Leonor of Spain along with her parents King Felipe and Queen Letizia will preside over the solemn ceremony of tribute to the National Flag and the military parade that will be held in the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo.
Our story begins with a heartwarming tradition. In 2014, a young Princess Leonor made her first appearance at the National Day parade. It was a momentous occasion as she joined her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, in this proud display of national unity.
In the years that followed, it became an annual family affair. Princess Leonor and her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, would grace the event together, standing side by side as they paid homage to their country's rich history.
But this year, there will be a notable absence. Unfortunately, Infanta Sofia won't be able to join her sister at the parade due to her school calendar commitments. It's a reminder that even royalty has to balance their duties with education.
Felipe and Letizia together with Princess of Asturias will preside, as every year, over the solemn ceremony of tribute to the National Flag and the military parade that on this occasion will be held in the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo. Subsequently, the Kings and the Princess will offer the traditional commemorative reception for the National Holiday at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
The purpose of the commemoration of the National Holiday is to solemnly remember moments of collective history that are part of the common historical, cultural and social heritage, assumed as such by the vast majority of citizens.
According to Law 18/1987, of October 7, which establishes the day of the National Holiday of Spain on October 12, it symbolizes the historical anniversary in which Spain, about to conclude a process of construction of the State from of our cultural and political plurality, and the integration of the Kingdoms of Spain into the same Monarchy, begins a period of linguistic and cultural projection beyond European limits.
