From emergency remote teaching to principled online practice with Dr. Marie Yeo

For online teaching to be effective, teachers need to design and plan instruction systematically, using appropriate models for online delivery. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many teachers to deliver instruction online without proper planning and preparation, resulting in a mode described as Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT). As online teaching is likely to stay, we need to move from ERT to principled online practice. This presentation describes the enactment of ERT by teacher trainers and the impact on their self-efficacy. It then describes a popular model for online instruction, illustrates its application, and evaluates its usefulness for the delivery of online language and language teacher education courses.
