So best foods to promote hair growth and amazing-looking hair: let’s get straight into it.
*Iron rich foods. Now when it comes to your hair, there is perhaps no more fundamental and at the same time easily avoidable dietary deficiency than that of iron. It has been understood for close to a century that iron deficiency is a key factor in diffuse hair loss, especially in women.
Believe it or not, a whopping two thirds of women with diffuse hair loss are believed to be iron deficient, as evidence by low serum ferritin. And I’m not talking about some recent breakthrough study or controversial theory – this is well-established, mundane science that you will find in any introductory dermatology or hair loss textbook.
We have covered low iron and serum ferritin levels in a previous video, as well as at the Hairguard blog, and I have linked to both of these in the description below.
Now there no other foods as rich in iron as red meat, chicken, turkey, ham, veal and seafood like clams, mussels, oysters and fish. So you want to be consuming moderate portions of these animal products, but we would not recommend overdoing it.
Other non-animal sources of iron that can be consumed by both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike are beans, tofu, chickpeas, apricots and baked potatoes.
*Fresh vegetable juices and smoothies are the best way to alkalize your body and provide the necessary micronutrients to support healthy hair follicles.
Micronutrients are the trace minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals that our body needs to carry out its various functions. These micronutrients are contrasted to the macronutrients that are the large, bulky molecules your body needs in mass, like proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
Now while all foods contain macronutrients, this is not the case with micronutrients. And it is certainly not the case with the impoverished, junk food diets that are so prevalent in the industrialized world.
