The Advent of Modern Gaelic Broadcasting
Professor Matthew MacIver, CBE and previous chair of Bòrd na Gàidhlig, discusses the advent of modern Gaelic broadcasting in this recorded talk.
Professor Matthew MacIver, CBE, is a native Gaelic speaker from Lewis and former Chair of Bòrd na Gàidhlig. As a member of the original Gaelic Television Committee set up by the Broadcasting Act of 1990, he was intricately involved with the establishment of modern Gaelic broadcasting.
This talk looks at the various issues that shaped a world where the Gaels would have their own national Gaelic broadcasting service, including a separate television channel, BBC Alba.
This event is hosted in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council, and will be a Gaelic-English event suitable for fluent speakers and learners.
Is ann à Leòdhas a tha an t-Ollamh Mata MacÌomhair agus bha a’ Ghàidhlig aige bhon ghlùin. Bha e na chathraiche air Bòrd na Gàidhlig agus, mar bhall den chiad Chomataidh Telebhisean Gàidhlig a chaidh a stèidheachadh le Achd a’ Chraolaidh ann an 1990, bha e gu mòr an sàs ann a bhith cur air chois craoladh Gàidhlig mar a dh’aithnichear an-diugh e. Bidh an òraid seo a’ coimhead ris na diofar nithean a chruthaich suidheachadh far an robh e comasach do na Gàidheil an seirbheis craolaidh nàiseanta fhèin a bhith aca le saineal Gàidhlig fa leth – BBC Alba.
Tha an tachartas seo (Gàidhlig agus Beurla) air a chumail ann an com-pàirteachas le Comhairle Baile Dhùn Èideann agus freagarrach airson fileantaich agus luchd ionnsachaidh.
