Scouting in Imperial Russia and the Russian Diaspora

What was the relationship between liberalism, scouting, and childhood in Russia? What was the role of the Romanov family in Russian scouting? Did Russia's scouting organization differ from Robert Baden-Powell's?

Dr. Elizabeth Zelensky presents on the history of Russian scouting in both late Imperial Russia and among the Russian diaspora from 1920-1991.

Find out how the founder of Russian scouting, Oleg Pantukhoff, attempted to create an institutional vehicle for “liberal” values such as self-development, initiative, and “ lichnost” (individuality). Dr. Zelensky draws on materials from the Oleg Ivanovich Pantukhoff Archive and her personal connection to scouting.
