Addiction: "Why Don't You Just Stop"

Canadian motivational speaker and mental health advocate, Allan Kehler, opens up about some of his own struggles with addiction. Often people told him to, "Just stop." Allan explains why it wasn't this easy, and provides a deeper understanding of addiction.

The above video was created as part of the Project Voice campaign by Break Barriers. This is a movement that began more than 5 years ago in Saskatoon. This is a group of community partners and volunteers whose objective is to eliminate the stigma and discrimination that persons living with mental illness and substance use disorders experience every day. Their focus on recovery, and the struggle, hopes and triumph that recovery entails is shared through their Project Voice Campaign by Breaking Barriers.

He spent the majority of his teaching career instructing the Mental Health & Wellness program at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and shares his powerful message on reserves across Canada. These cultural teachings have played a key role in his own recovery, and a holistic approach towards healing can be found in his presentations.
