Authorities claim that thousands of people arrested during the protests were linked to foreign-backed unrest, while families of victims continue mourning publicly despite strict restrictions. The gap between official reports and independent videos highlights how deeply divided Iranian society has become.

The real impact of these protests goes beyond universities. Human rights groups say the death toll may be far higher than what the government admits. The Human Rights Activists News Agency has reported over 7,000 confirmed deaths and is reviewing thousands more cases. UN experts, including Mai Sato, estimate the number could exceed 20,000, while former US President Donald Trump claimed it could be as high as 32,000. Iran has rejected international investigations and insists that violence was caused by “terrorists and rioters.” What is clear is that student protests have once again become the voice of national resistance, and their return to campuses signals that the crisis is far from over.
