The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 2024 data reveals that only 35 % of high school seniors reached Proficient in reading in 2024, and Over 30 % of seniors are below Basic — seriously underprepared to navigate texts in adulthood.
Yet homeschoolers consistently score in the 84th-87th percentile regardless of parent education level (Ray, 2017).
After 13 years and $200,000+ per child, the public education system is producing functional illiterates while attacking the families who are actually succeeding. The literacy crisis isn't a homeschool problem - it's a school system failure being covered up by scapegoating the solution.
