Relaxation is power and tightness is the enemy of #sprinting. But to attain relaxation, you must practise it. But how? This is the second video I have done on relaxation and sprinting. I recommend you watch the first as it gives a simple tip that you can apply into training immediately. please click for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb1DoXHeXx8 . #Relaxation is not attained as a by-product of hard training (which seems to be the driving myth at the moment). Hard training solidifies tightness which will compromise sprinting and endurance training. #sprinting is generally a skill to be practised. The reason being that the modern world and its' pressures compromises an athlete's body and compromises an athlete's movement. Anxiety and stress causes tightness in an athlete's sprinting and raises the chances of injury. It also shortens a sprinter's stride and compromises power.
So how do we incorporate relaxation into your training? Well, it comes from watching ourselves primarily. Where I mind is at will play a large part on the stress levels of our body. One thing that will take us out of a relaxed state is thinking and wanting to run fast too much or wanting to run well too much.This is because we are thinking about what we want and what we want is not what we have right now. This is a lack mentality that will add stress and anxiety and you will feel it. What we have to do is watch this in ourselves and take a deep diaphragmatic breath to bring oursleves into the present moment again. This is the source of relaxation. This is also where we are most confident and stronger and more powerful. Breathing is very powerful just before a race when we are getting into the blocks. You need to generate power out of the blocks and you need to be in a state of relaxation to attain that power. This technique takes time to perfect but should be perfected by sprinters and distance runners alike. Relaxation exercises outside of training (like breathing) will most likely be needed. Relaxation must be treated as a habit and a habit is only solidified through repetition and practise.
