Jones Lakewood Lodge - interview with Barb Mitchinson and Jim Cody

Barb Mitchinson and Jim Cody, brother and sister, give insights into a family vacation resort that became such a treasure for their family that both Barb and Jim purchased cottages when the resort disbanded.

The Cody Family began vacationing in the Manitowish Waters Region in 1957. They came each summer to Jones’ Lakewood Lodge on the Manitowish River. They became lifelong friends of owners, Harland, and Lorraine Jones. Harland and Lorraine had no children of their own but were so involved with the Cody children while they were at the resort.

The Cody family remembers that Harland and Lorraine were good stewards of the river and forest around them and that they were active in the life of the community of Manitowish Waters. Harland worked at Trueflight Manufacturing Company as well as being involved in community work.

When Jim and Barb had their own families, Harland offered them the opportunity to buy cabins when he decided to sell the resort. The result was wonderful for the next generations of both of their families.

This interview took place May 28, 2021 at the Koller Library in Manitowish Waters with Emily Megyar and Kay Krans of the MW Historical Society.
