plastic welding is VERY effective (fixing heavy duty plastic gears)

I had a heavy duty plastic nylon gear break, but I didn’t want to stop the job I was working on and wait a week while parts to arrive so in only about 20 minutes I repaired this broken plastic gear with a soldering iron by plastic welding it back together. Plastic welding is a lot different than gluing. In the video I show the techniques I’ve learned, and I show re-installing the gear and running through some parts. Long-term I’m going to have extra plastic gears around because the gear is actually designed to protect the machine, and there is a good chance that if the machine takes another hit this gear will break again. You want this gear to break instead of your machine. The point of the video is next time you break a plastic part you may want to consider plastic welding it back together. Sometimes your temporary fix might actually be permanent.
