🏗️ End of an Era at Cottam Power Station – The Sustainable Legacy of Precast Concrete

I’m here at Cottam Power Station, just eight miles from our Tuxford production facility. Opened in 1969 and closed in 2019, today marks the demolition of its eight iconic cooling towers, a true landmark for decades.

The precast concrete blocks used here have stood strong for over fifty years, playing a vital role in supporting the UK’s power supply. As the site enters a new chapter, those same blocks will be crushed to a civil engineering grade and reused to stabilise the ground for future development.

Precast concrete is a sustainable choice for infrastructure:

✔️ Provides long-lasting strength—typical design life is 50 or even 100 years

✔️ Fully recyclable at end of life, supporting a circular economy

✔️ Reduces waste and environmental impact
