Letterkenny Folk Festival - Donegal 1978

The tenth year of the Letterkenny Folk Festival brings International music and dance to Donegal.

The Letterkenny Folk Festival hosts a variety of music and dance groups from Ireland and around the world.

More people than ever turned out to see the parade of musicians and dancers.

A parade of dancers and bands made its way through Letterkenny to the main square where the festival was officially opened. Huge crowds packed the streets for the opening ceremony which featured international folk singer Julie Felix.

The festival organising committee works year round to get the right mix of musicians and performers. This year the lineup includes groups from Italy, Germany, Norway and Scotland. A group of drummers from the West Indies, The Steel and Skin Band, are also performing at the festival. There is also a folk group from India.

The influx of performers to the town comes the need to accommodate and feed them all. Festival director Barney Doherty says that all performers have been accommodated with the help of local business and the people of Letterkenny. Each year the festival committee tries to make sure that the quality of the performers gets better and better.
