The Black Family - Colcannon (1986)

Mary, Frances, Michael, Shay and Martin of The Black Family perform Colcannon.
The Black family from Charlemont Street in Dublin, ran Black’s General Grocers but always found time for music and song.
Mr and Mrs Black had a lot of time for music and song and they passed a love of all things musical down through the years on to their five children and they’ve been singing and performing together ever since they were tiny tots.

While some of them now live overseas, last Christmas the family came together to record an album of songs. They have reunited again tonight on The Late Late Show for a rendition of ‘Colcannon’.

Oh you did, so you did
so did he and so did I
And the more I think about it
sure the nearer I’m to cry
Oh weren’t them the happy days
when troubles we knew not
And or mother made colcannon
in the little skillet pot
