USWNT/NWSL - Allie Long Throws Out First Pitch at Hillsboro Hops (AZ D-Backs) Baseball Game - 9-5-16

USWNT and NWSL Portland Thorns midfielder, Allie Long was honored on September 5th, 2016 at the Hillsboro Hops Baseball Game at Ron Tonkin Field located in a suburb northwest of Portland, Oregon, throwing out the first pitch. The Hops are a minor-league farm team for the Arizona Diamondbacks founded in 2013, which plays in the short-season Class-A Northwest League. Long was accompanied by her then fiancé and now husband, Jose Batista (A.K.A. “Bati”), along with USWNT and Thorns teammate and bonafide “bestie,” Tobin Heath (A.K.A. “Harry”) and fellow Thorns teammate and French International, Amandine Henri. Long made the bold decision to throw from the mound, at first juggling the ball with her foot as a soccer player would do and then tossing the ball just short of home plate, much to her dismay. Long was an honorary guest given her service to the Portland community, as one of its own beloved athletes and for her conquest of making the USWNT and Team USA Rio 2016 Olympic roster after years away from the team, even though they fell far short of the Gold Medal, heartbreakingly losing to Sweden on penalty kicks in the Quarterfinal Round, a match played at the great Mané Garrincha Stadium located in Brasilia, Brazil.
