How to connect a home phone to a TP-Link modem?

Connecting a home phone to your TP-Link modem primarily depends on whether the modem is also a Voice over IP (VoIP) gateway provided by your internet service provider. If your TP-Link device features one or two RJ11 phone jacks (often labeled "Phone 1," "Line 1," or "FXS"), simply plug your standard home phone directly into one of these ports using a phone cable. This indicates your ISP provides phone service through this specific modem, converting your analog phone signal into digital data for transmission over the internet. However, if your TP-Link modem is a standard internet-only device without dedicated phone ports, you cannot directly connect a traditional analog phone. In this scenario, you'll need an external Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA). This device, which usually comes with its own VoIP service subscription (e.g., Ooma, Vonage), connects to your TP-Link modem via an Ethernet cable. Your home phone then plugs into the RJ11 port on the ATA, allowing it to use your internet connection for calls.
