Zebrafish: Practically People – How to Save the Human Species | Dr. Wendy Leonard | TEDxWilmington

Zebrafish are practically people. They share 84% of our genes known to be associated with human genetic diseases! They have the same brain chemicals we do and the same organs – they even have a gallbladder! They’re vertebrates. They make estrogen – ideal for studying breast cancer. They also suffer from disease like addiction, depression, diabetes and heart disease. And compared to mice, with Zebrafish, we can get better data, spend pennies on the dollar, and get those results in a fraction of the time.
