Deadly bacteria and the pharmaceutical industry | DW Documentary
Multi-resistant bacteria are currently the greatest danger to modern medicine and threaten millions of lives. Experts around the world are extremely worried.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die due to multi-resistant bacteria - bacteria where many antibiotics are no longer effective. And drug manufacturers are contributing to the problem.
Many infectious diseases have long been regarded as defeated. But countless antibiotics are now proving ineffective against a growing number of multi-resistant germs. The documentary shows, however, that the manufacturers of the most important drugs are themselves contributing to the development of extremely resistant germs and spreading them globally - so that even their own drugs are no longer effective. The filmmakers went to India, a global producer of pharmaceuticals, to explore claims that practices there are at the heart of the problem. The consequences could affect us all.
