Taiwan opposition leader says China's military force aimed at independence supporters

KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun argued on Thursday that Beijing’s military threats are specifically targeted at supporters of Taiwan independence rather than the broader public, claiming that Xi Jinping considers the Taiwanese people to be "family."

Framing the current political climate as a choice between war and peace, Cheng called on the public to place their trust in China's expressed desire for peaceful development.

She pointed to her recent discussions with Xi as proof that conflict can be avoided so long as both sides prioritize cooperation and the reduction of external provocations.
