How to Build a Backyard Ice Rink!

When mother nature smacks you in the face with her cold hand, don't go inside and bundle up. Get out and build an ice rink! That's what we did. We took some 2x6s, plastic sheeting, screws and a staple gun and built an ice rink on our patio. It's actually a pretty easy project if you have an area that's fairly flat to work with.

We give tips later in the video regarding the type of plastic to use (or stay away from), as well as what worked well for filling it and smoothing it out.

Set aside a few hours for a project like this. Filling it can take awhile as well, but you don't have to stand there and watch it. Our rink was about 13x24 and I'm guessing it took a few hundred gallons of water to fill it. The patio that we put it on also had more slope than I originally thought, so one side was about an inch deep and the other was about 4".
