The flipped classroom has managed to last for more than 10 years in its current form. In this video I will argue that the flipped classroom is connected very closely to current thoughts about language learning. I will highlight how the flipped classroom is connected to both behaviorist and a cognitive approaches to learning and this is very much the current thoughts around learning languages. I will also highlight the importance of Bloom's Taxonomy and why this is so relevant to the flipped classroom.

We understand that language learning is about internalizing the grammar and vocabulary and syntax and then processing and practicing and using that language as much as possible. This links very closely with the flipped classroom. Students can do the behaviorist types of activities at home where they learn grammar, practice reading and study vocabulary etc. They use the classroom time for more group-based, pair work based activities where they practice using the language, listening to the language and writing the language. This links very closely to the theories of the flipped classroom.
-The Flipped Classroom is evolving
The other interesting thing is that the flipped classroom is evolving and so many of the recent ideas around the flipped classroom include the students doing homework collaboratively and I will speak about this at the end of the video. I attend many flipped classroom conferences and another recent development in the use of the flipped classroom is the way that we can change our assessment and evaluation to link closer to the way that the flipped classroom is organised. In this video I talk about this and highlights some of the key ways that the flipped classroom and assessment and learning link together.
-How we approach mapping the use of technology to the class
Finally a key point in this video is the importance of thinking about how do we actually use technology in the language classroom. We have often struggle to think of ways of linking the use of technology to the current book syllabus we might be using in the classroom. So for example is it a good idea to link the use of technology to the curriculum that we work through in a book? Another approach is to look at the affordances of technology and decide that we will use technology when the key of affordances are really being utilised full. However one obvious approach is to actually use the flipped classroom to give us guidance of when and how to use technology. So we use behaviorist type technologies for the homework that is quizzes, quizlet and activities that really help us to work on the behaviorist types of activities. We use the more collaborative tools in the classroom to get students sharing and collaborating and working together.
