What apes can teach us about bullying | Anya Berlova | TEDxEustis

Is it possible to create a world where bullying does not exist? Throughout time, scientists have used chimpanzees as an excuse for bullying behaviors in humans. But in the modern time and society, evolution should no longer be a justification. Researcher and anti-bullying entrepreneur Anya Berlova contends that the time has come for humanity to also take a look at a different primate relative, the bonobo apes, to learn how to curb bullying and create a kinder and less violent world. Anya Berlova is a student and Leeds Scholar at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is the founder of two anti-bullying startups, a published children’s book illustrator, a remote volunteer for the United Nations, an international speaker on women’s entrepreneurship, and a researcher in the field of psychology and mental health. Through various creative initiatives in technology, art, animation, film, and fashion, Anya’s ventures aim to help people build resilience against bullying and embrace what makes them unique. Anya hopes that through her work, she can help create a world where bullying does not exist (or at least exists a little bit less). You can connect with Anya (and her startup’s mascots, Sheepers and Puggie) through her Instagram, @anyaberlovaofficial. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
