FRANCE IS NOT LEAVING AFRICA - IT IS CHANGING ITS METHOD

At the recent Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, President Emmanuel Macron presented France’s new posture towards the continent: less military dominance, more investment language; less old-style Françafrique, more talk of partnership, innovation and shared growth.
But behind the polished summit language lies a deeper dilemma. France has lost influence in parts of West and Central Africa, especially across the Sahel, where anti-French sentiment and new geopolitical alliances have challenged Paris’s old position. Now, by turning to Kenya and Anglophone Africa, France appears to be searching for a new route back into Africa’s future.
