Ahh, finally, the Camino de Santiago is here. Join me on day 1 as I take you along on the journey from San Sebastián Spain to Getaria, Spain in the famous Basque country (País Vasco in Spanish). I hike approximately 30 km and meet some new friends along the way as well as show you the stunning countryside alone the northern coast of Spain with stunning mountains and beaches that border the Atlantic Ocean. The Camino de Santiago is a pilgrimage and famous hike in Spain (Europe) of various routes in Spain that ends at the Apostille of St James in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. It was originated in the Medieval times and pilgrims have traversed the same route as me dating hundreds, even thousands of years back. Some started in Madrid, or southern Spain. Some started in France. Some started in Portugal, but the mission was always the same - to reach the Apostille of St. James. You could call this a spiritual and religious quest. In modern times, it's more of a symbolic journey that one takes to either adventure and be mindful of the moment and nature around you, to seek religious and spiritual fulfillment and growth, or to just challenge yourself physically and mentally. It's about enjoying each day and the simple things such as mother nature around you; to reflect on what's important in life. It's honestly a profound experience and I recommend it to everyone.
