Meranti is a successful and well-liked panglima (commander) in the court of the Raja (king). He becomes the target of a conspiracy amid an attempted coup instigated by the Perdana Menteri (Prime Minister) and the Tok Pawang (royal bomoh). Being put to torture and banished to a distant islet, Meranti is rescued by a mullah and his followers. Determined to seek vindication, he receives advice from the mullah and challenges the Perdana Menteri, who has usurped the Raja’s power.
